A Las Vegas Marriage? Why Not?

Las Vegas Marriage Tips

It’s been called the marriage capital of the world! Lots of couples plan to have a Las Vegas marriage and for good reason.

The casinos along the Vegas strip are fanciful with lots of bright lights, glitz, glimmer, excitement and entertainment to excite the senses. Everything is intended to attract your attention—not only the casinos but also the over 60 wedding chapels. So, couples have lots of choices. No blood tests or waiting periods are required to get a marriage license. It’s fast and easy to get married in Las Vegas. So, why not?

A mistake that many couples make is in focusing all of their time on the wedding. They give little, if any, attention to the marriage. The wedding ceremony will be over in a matter of minutes. But marriage is intended to be for a lifetime. So, the question is, how prepared are you to live together happily after the ceremony for the rest of your lives? This question applies to anyone planning a Las Vegas marriage or getting married anywhere else. It’s more than trying to plan a “perfect” wedding and then hoping for the best afterward. Being able to communicate, learning how to resolve conflicts, getting pre-marital counseling, taking the time to really discuss and plan a life together by considering all of the issues which you’re likely to face and working them out before you say “I do” enables you to enter your nuptials with a great deal more confidence. We suggest that couples write down their ideas and agreements—not as some kind of legally binding contract but as a personalized blueprint for how you will achieve success. Also decide now on what specific steps you will take if, at some time in the future, you find your marriage in trouble and you need help. Will you read books together, take marriage classes, seek religious or spiritual guidance, seek professional counseling, some a combination of these, or whatever?

We have been happily married for over 31 years. Before we got married, we talked about every possible thing we could think of and planned our lives together. And after we got married, we kept talking and working things out. We put far more emphasis on our lives together and had a very simple wedding.

So, if you’re thinking about a Las Vegas marriage and you’ve done all of your work to plan your life together, great! Get married and have a wonderful time!
